At the time of adoption, i.e. 2003, Ghulam Nabi Secondary School was in a dilapidated condition with acute shortage of teachers. It had an overall strength of 200 students. Under Navy League's management, there are 850 enrolled students with a large number on the waiting list. The school is located on Baba Islands, a poor fisherman village having a population of about 16,000 inhabitants.
The old school building, which was constructed in 1971 with a capacity for 250 students, was insufficient to cater to the increased enrollment and had corroded, becoming a safety hazard. The Navy League undertook an ambitious project to demolish the unstable parts of the old structure and increase the school's capacity by building 16 new classrooms with new students' Desks and chairs. The project cost was estimated at Rs. 15 million, which was met by members of the Navy League, their friends, and well-wishers.
